Overview

Restoran Kacang Pool Haji Larkin JB (Cawangan Ara Damansara) brings a slice of Johor Bahru’s beloved street food culture to Petaling Jaya. Nestled in the vibrant Taipan 2 Damansara, this branch faithfully replicates the flavors that made its original Larkin outlet a household name for Kacang Pool and other Johorean classics.

The main attraction here is undoubtedly the Kacang Pool, a hearty, bean-based dish served with an extra piece of toasted bread. The dish is slightly sweet, with a rich, savory depth that echoes the authentic taste of JB. Alongside this, dishes like Lontong Kering and Lontong Basah provide contrasting textures and flavors — from soft, coconut-infused rice cakes to crispier fried versions. For noodle lovers, Mee Rebus and Meehun Goreng Ayam make for comforting, flavorful options that complement the overall menu diversity.

What sets this restaurant apart is its consistency. Reviewers highlight that the taste closely mirrors the original Haji Larkin branch, offering a reliable experience for those craving Johorean comfort food without the long trip south. The Soto Ayam is noted for its pleasant, mild broth balanced with a sweeter cili kicap, while the Bihun Soto Ayam and Nasi Soto enrich the menu with warm, aromatic Southeast Asian spices.

The dining space at Cawangan Ara Damansara is cozy, clean, and well-maintained, though it tends to be crowded during peak hours. The seating arrangement is compact, which can feel a bit cramped, but the lively atmosphere enhances the communal dining experience. Parking requires some patience, as available spots are limited and often necessitate a quick tour around nearby residential streets.

Service here merits praise—staff are friendly and efficient, creating a welcoming environment despite the bustling setting. Operating hours stretch from early morning at 7am until midnight, catering well to both early risers and late-night food seekers. Given its almost daily availability and rare closure, it is clear this restaurant is committed to serving its loyal patrons consistently.

Restoran Kacang Pool Haji Larkin JB in Ara Damansara caters primarily to Johorean food enthusiasts, local workers, and families seeking authentic regional flavors outside of JB. It’s also ideal for those willing to trade a bit of comfort space and parking convenience for a genuine taste of southern Malaysia’s street food legacy. For anyone keen to explore or revisit the unique Kacang Pool culture with complementary dishes like Lontong and Mee Rebus, this venue is a reliable, flavorful destination.

Great food and service. The space was very clean. The only thing was some flies flying around.

Definitely the best breakfast spot in JB. You guys should try their kacang pool and lontong kering. Their kopi o iced and kopi iced are also perfectly made. We enjoyed our breakfast to the fullest. The must spot whenever we visited JB! The atmosphere was crowded and the space between tables were a bit cramped but nothing can beat the scrumptious kacang pool and toasted bread set Although the parking is tricky to get but you don’t mind going back and forth around the residential area to get the best parking spot. Please don’t block their way.

Food taste is average but it is consistent with the original JB branch. The Soto soup is nice, the cili kicap is not as spicy but rather sweet. The Kacang Pool is also nice and slightly sweet. They are open from 7am to 12 midnight every day and only closed 4 days in a year.

The taste is exactly what I was expected and the same as the original at Bomba Larkin. So for Johorean or whoever stayed in Ara Damasara area or resided somewhere in Damansara or Subang, that craving for Kacang Pool Haji or just, a good Johorean food, this is the go to place. Sitting area is limited. But if you are patient enough to taste this amazing food, you will wait for it. The staff are friendly including the cashier (sorry I didn't get your name) and the service is prompt. Not sure why it didn't appeared in Waze nor in IG location but do use Google for it. I will definitely return for Soto and Mee Rebus. Keep up the amazing service. WELL DONE.

Kacang pool tastes the same as in JB. Lontong kering is the best. And lontong basah absolute the winner. Start everyday at 7am.

An underrated gem in Ara Damansara. This is a branch of the famous stall in JB, but it feels like it has its own charm. The location is a little secluded, which makes it feel like a hidden find. Came here for dinner and was glad they close late, perfect for a relaxed evening meal. The food was amazing. The Kacang Pool Daging was rich and hearty, the Nasi Ambeng was packed with flavor, and the Lontong Darat was comforting and satisfying. The menu is quite limited, so it would be great if they added more appetizers or desserts. Still, what they serve is done really well, making it worth the trip.
